Windows XP is still faster with older hardware, but if you have a good setup, Win 7 will take advantage of the newer hardware.
I'm quite sure that most of us would agree that XP is more comfortable. Simply because we have used XP for so long and Windows 7 is reminding us Windows Vista which apparently sucked hard. My best friend likes Windows Vista/7 theme a lot, but I find it disgusting. So it's a matter of taste really. Windows 7 is known as better performed OS when it comes to good hardware because all Graphics Card companies etc are starting to make updates for new products (Windows 7 in this case) It also appears that 32bit XP only supports 3.49 GB of RAM. As of now, this is pretty decent for gamers but say 1 year later, there will definitely be games that require 4GB to run maximum video settings.
Since Win 7 can utilize full 4GB of RAM instead of Win XP, I'm sure in year to come, the min requirement to run a games should be at least 4GB of RAM running on your PC or Notebook. And Microsoft already drop the support for Win XP, and for this I'm sure most software company outside there will make WIN 7 as their baseline to develop new software since there will be no more security updates for Win XP.
My Laptop is amazingly fast now, although it did have Vista on before i installed Win 7. Boots up in about a 3rd of the time. Been running for months now and no sign of any problems. XP was a good solid OS but it's time to move on...
In my experience windows 7 is way faster when you have atleast a dual core system with around 4 gb of ram vs. windows xp on the same system. Win 7 64bit really takes advantage of the newer hardware vs win xp. My pick is win 7 all the way.
I have not had a chance to compare the two side by side, but I believe that this pc runs faster now it has Windows 7. Thanks Brian
I prefer and Windows XP! much faster than Windows 7 becuse it has less additional stuff like Windows 7. So it takes no time to process anything in no more additional time
I uses both.In my company win 7 and my home win XP.I think Win XP is much faster than win 7.but both speed are good.thanks
Minimum recommendations will vary depending on your needs. You need to evaluate your setup, what you are doing on the PC, which applications and devices you are using and take into account their requirements also.
It's possible that Windows XP would have fared better than it did here. But for even a fairly basic modern PC, Windows 7 delivers the best performance around. XP came in second place and Windows 7 was the fastest.
I have recently upgraded my pcs to windows 7 (several windows xp machines and a couple of vista machines) and I am finding it just as fast as XP and considerably faster than Vista. But each machine has minimum of 2gb ram which I think it about the minimum you would want if you are considering Windows 7.
