I think its too cheap step from Microsoft -- planning to break the Board of a well running firm, just to capture it. its just to show that no one can say "NO" to us...

"Microsoft, though, has said it's no longer interested in buying Yahoo in its entirety unless Icahn's board is on the other end of the negotiations."

What is your opinions Please share...

Icahn seems to be only interested in one thing. Short term monetory gains. What happens to Yahoos products and services, it seems he doesn’t care. Since departure of Semel, I dont think Yahoo has been given a fair chance to even layout a good long term strategy with constant threat of takeover hanging over its heads. History suggests that Microsoft is inept at handling internet business. Look what they have done to hotmail. They destroyed its net worth. Similarly, by selling Yahoo to Microsoft, search isnt going to get better, its will be mostly the same team doing search related work and soon that will be destroyed too. Yahoo had purchased Overture systems and Inktomi without much success in search market. When one of the pioneers couldent do it on their own, how do we expect Microsoft to turn it around? Yahoo isnt only about search, its also about, hosting, email, messenger and many other customer facing properties, if the best Icahn gets is for Microsoft to buy search, what good does it serve shareholders. Icahn’s own investment in Yahoo is now stuck as a bad investment as he had short term gains in mind and hence he is dangling carrots to other shareholders. He just cares about his own money in very short term.
