Why would they care if they're supposedly trying to phase out XP anyway? It'd be like trying to crack down on illegal Win98 installs at this point.

The real solution to effectively stop this pirate OS business is in the hands of MS itself!

If only it priced its products more efficiently, there would not be any incentive for people to trail this gray path....:(

XP is viewed as the most successful version of windows to date, that's why. They figure if they can get more money from people they will.

Vista, while great for those of us in updated pc world, isn't ready for the average user. Windows 7, the successor to Vista, is going to make great strides towards that accomplishment, but IT'S still in beta.

It's a catch 22, really, Microsoft shouldn't be charging an arm and a leg for basic necessities (ie: an OS), but we don't get to dictate to any company the price they set on their product.

I don't think it'll be over, I mean seriously there's a bunch of smart guys out there that will find a way to bypass such protections and crack it. But anyways, that's one of the reasons I dislike Microsoft and use Mac and Linux instead.

All you have to do is disable updates, like I have.

I wish, linux is becoming more user friendly but isn't quite there yet. Ubuntu I think will be the first to make it

This really won't matter as long as there is corp version out there. With Vista you are required a corp server to manage licenses but not with xp.

So just find a good corp key and you should good for awhile.

Listen - its as simple as this... if someone can make a program to run one way, someone else can make that same program run a different way. It's impossible to stop pirating.

MS just waste their time, Pirates are faster than them. They release WGA updates, and Cracks comes even faster after that.

You can't stop the pirates!! Lol. They'll just crack something else and the masses will go to the new crack. Microsoft will never win. Although I admire they're efforts! :)

LOL I don't have to worry about it. I've never used a cracked version of Windows. I keep buying microsofts expensive crap!! :D

I really hope that Microsoft can stop all of their products from being pirated. I'm disgusted that all of you think it's ok to pirate other people's work. Microsoft spends billions in development costs for these products, and they need to pay their employees and make money back to develop future products. Piracy hurts all software development companies. I would never do business with any of you. Pirating software is the exact same thing as walking into a gas station and stealing their money.

If you can't afford it, then don't use it. Use Linux or some other open source software if you are to poor to purchase software.

Windows is not the best OS in the world. Yet, the only reason it tops, is piracy. Microsoft clearly knows this. If they start cracking down piracy aggressively, chances are they will loose their market share.

Stop crying. And no, it's not the same as going to a petrol station and stealing their money, so stop being silly with irrelevant metaphors. You don't want to do business with any of us eh? Better go and find a new business forum then. Microsoft deserves it, they're a crap company. Why do you think piracy isn't as much of a problem for other software firms? We're the users and as long as they charge ridiculous prices, we'll keep using cracked software. Simple. Instead of listening to us they'll waste time trying to stop us. It's no-one else's fault but their own.
