Like Chris Daughtry sang...be careful what you wish for, cause you just might get it all. I'm excited about this as well but let's look at two possible scenarios. Scenario 1: Yahoo Search and Live become one type of search but they return vastly different results than Google (to stay different..wouldn't make much sense to use the same algorithm); what this means for us is we now have to optimize for 2 search engines vs just one now with Google. Scenario 2: Yahoo Search and Live become one type of search but they return similar results (Micrsofts Live rankings are more closely resembled to my Google rankings than Yahoo). This creates two giant sources for your traffic playing by a similar ruleset. Searching will be a matter of preference or habit and the webmaster community wins out. Scenario 2 would be great for webmasters since they wouldn't' have to worry about spamming kw's to rank well in Yahoo, and focus on merely good SEO rather than SEOing for multiple SE's. Obviously the possibility exists that they don't merge the SE's and then this really wouldn't affect us that much. Is there any chance they would leave yahoo search and live search separate if the deal does happen?...I can see them using a different algorithm just to justify being a different SE..and if that happens we'll be schizophrenically SEOing our sites for both Google and the yahoo/live hybrid. Could get really complicated. Let's hope they're similar
well, this is a similar thread i saw, to one posted in the Yahoo section of this forum... anyways, just wait N watch!!
I think this is excellent news. The microsoft's bid is around 15 billion MORE than the Yahoo's stock value (when the bid was made). If/when Yahoo & Microsoft, it sure brings very interesting player in the field. Big G get's a good competitor. Looking forward to hearing more.
Yahoo is now at $27.80 Microsoft has offered $31 a share http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080201/ap_on_hi_te/microsoft_yahoo
I think thats awsome for us. Microsoft competes with ads, Google goes back to what it used to be as far as payouts go. We win . That's if it goes down
The software giant Microsoft made an offer as both companies struggle to catch Google. Yahoo shares jump 45%. Deal may face protracted negotiations, antitrust scrutiny. With Google getting 50%, Yahoo 17%, MSN 13% (approximately) of all search engine traffic you can imagine how strong microsoft search will be. Chances are very high that Microsoft will dominate the search engine marketplace in very near future; if the deal actually happens; Microsoft stunned investors and Internet users around the world this morning by making an unsolicited $44.6 billion bid to buy rival Yahoo (YHOO, news, msgs). The offer was made Jan 31, 2008 night and announced in the morning of Feb 1 2008. The $31-a-share offer is a 62% premium over Yahoo's closing price of $19.18 on Thursday. Yahoo shares soared on the news, jumping 45% to $27.72 by 12:20 p.m. ET. Source: http://www.cosmocentral.com/post/2008/02/Microsoft-Offered-45-Billion-to-Buy-Yahoo.aspx
Yeah, its the news of the day. This might have some effect on Google, as both yahoo and micro$oft great potential.
I was told they will quite probably discontinue YPN, in favor of their own Microsoft Content Ads network. This might have been in the works for some time, thus the long beta and non commitment towards YPN by yahoo. But then again, who knows 100%
If this merger really happens, chances are Microsoft will take over the search engine market over time.
I think if the merger goes ahead, there may finally be a viable alternative for Google, if MS take their advice, and make the search light and fast, then they might have a chance. And I'm all for a joint ad network between them, Like Adsense, but I can't see it happening,,
Yahoo Is the most big website in the world , and most traffics are goes to yahoo 44 billion ? its big money but not enough for yahoo
i can see google making an offer on this. If they do buy Yahoo they would control 75%-85% if the search market.
This is a very interesting development, i think good news for webmasters It would create a more balanced search engine market 60% google 30% yahoo/msn 10% other Will hopefully speed up yahoo's and msn's advertising products for publishers Which means publishers outside of the states will have a contextual advertising alternative....which can only be good! http://www.thestreet.com/s/microsoft-fires-up-web-wars/newsanalysis/technet/10401687.html
