Ask yourself, "do you want the combined company to knock Google down?" Before you answer, remember Microsoft doesn't care a bit about the consumer . . . being sued by nearly every government in the world attests to that.

If they combine the two search engines, it may create some decent competition... but I personally think Google stands unbeatable. :p

It's good they're thinking about it. I personally think Microsoft taking over wouldn't be that bad....

I think so. Many experts are thinking about this only. If microsoft popularize with more attracting methods means then definitely it will gain over google.

I would love to see this even out things so Google does not have such a huge market share but I unfortunatly just dont see it working, I think this will infact workout even worse as all those who used to use Yahoo but are microsoft haters will just start using different search engines.

I think this will be exactly what Google would have wanted they could not have asked for more they will gain from this and take even more of a share in the market I think and will soon vertually own any means of getting traffic for websites they will be the internet advertising kings and will be able to charge whatever they want for the ability to send traffic to your site, it will be a matter of it you dont pay google big bucks you wont get any traffic.

WOW! Micrsoft offers 46 billion dollars cash for Yahoo.

Personally I hope it works out, somebody has to keep Google honest.

Microsoft is already too big; look at what they charge to MS office, etc. Google offers google docs for free. They have 95% monopoly on the the OS business, the last thing we need is for MS to control more of the computer business than they already have. The way for them to kill Google is to offer a better search engine than google has, and people would use it.

I'm more of hoping for less of a monopoly for google, not so much someone to pass google up.

As I write at Yahoo forums here at DP, this merger is a last best attempt to catch Google, but I doubt they can beat Google

If Microsoft where smart, They would not buy Yahoo, but spend the 40 Billion $ and use it to improve their search engine and advertise the CRAP out of it! 40B in commercials/ magazine ads, billboards, newspapers, scratching it on bathroom walls, etc... would go a LONG Way. Come up with some catchy jingles and have it Everywhere.

I gotta agree I think this would be much more effective to be honest, all I see from the takeover is for a huge flop and for Google to clean up.

Why dont Microsoft put that $44bn to a good cause, like building a search engine to rival G. I cant see how combining two mediocre search engines is gonna be any sort of threat.
