    "NEWS ALERT
    from The Wall Street Journal

    March 2, 2009

Microsoft Corp. has begun testing a revamped version of its Internet search service, dubbed Kumo.com, as the software giant tries to improve its third-place position in the online search market.

In an email sent late Monday afternoon to all Microsoft employees, Satya Nadella, senior vice president of research and development for Microsoft's online services division, invited company staffers to begin testing the Kumo search .."

Is it me or does "Kumo" rhyme with "Google"

We'll see how it turns out, like EVERYTHING else Microsoft has made, they have a knack for copying others' work. :D

Microsoft had the opportunity to buy out Yahoo and just move in and develop from there but now we get this. For such an apparently clued up company they just have never managed to get Search Engine Technology at all.

what happend to live search, kumo sounds more like kama sutra, must be a porn search engine. Its a good niche by the way.

Even if Microsoft's search engine becomes as good as google, the hard part is getting people to actually stop using google and start using kumo. There's no incentive.

Nice try. You can't compare when one doesn't exist yet.

Microsoft not going to beat the Gaint G. Google has already become favorites of all, the new alexa traffic rankings shows how Google overthrew Yahoo by at least 1.5 % more traffic. Seems alexa traffic rankings are now updated each day.

It's not wise to say something doesn't have a chance when you don't even know anything about it.

It is too early to write KUMO off....Let them get their act together and wait till it is commercially released.
For a healthy development of the segment, there is always a need for a well-funded competitor to challenge the might of a leader...

Didn't we all use IE and now most of us changed to FireFox/others?
I'm not saying it is going to be easy to outrank google but you never know what Microsoft can do.
