Now, I heard from a very reliable resource that when entering the microsoft website, they will try and collect some info on your past activities for up to a full month. Of course, this really only works with some browsers (like IE). If you have tools like NoScript and Firefox, you're safe right? I don't know why they do this, they are so controlling lol. I also heard this is why IE by default has automatically downloads, and doesn't prompt you like FireFox does. Can anyone confirm this information? And please, only reply if you know your facts, don't want any nonsense posts (although this site seems pretty good with keeping spam out).
Not sure what the big deal here is. Many large websites do the same thing - does cookies ring a bell? if I go to Amazon, it will tell me the last few items I was looking for and suggest some items based on those past searches. If I go to an affiliate who uses Amazon ads, the amazon ad actually says hello followed by my name with the ad listed (not sure which ad type this is) Any website that leaves cookies can do exactly the same thing so the topic is a non-issue.
You only want people who know their facts but you yourself has said that you only heard of this from a source... Microsoft aren't controlling either. This statement for me classes this as a nonsense post.
It's very unlikely. I doubt that microsoft have enough time and resources to "collect" data from all XP / IE (microsoft) users.
If Microsoft were to catch hold of your cookies, they could do it as soon as they are created. Deleting them in no way saves them from being in that case. Btw Microsoft only collects Anonymous Information as far as I know.
I'm not sure if they collect your browsing history. What they may be looking for is details like your Operating System, browser version, recent updates list etc which is collected by many websites as mentioned above. In short there is nothing to worry about.
it doesn't matter to me, maybe they could use it for better tools or system by knowing users activities...
Although it is kinda creepy and invasive that microsoft is doing that, I guess its a risk you gotta take. Hackers can do that same thing so it honestly doesnt surprise me that microsoft does.
