Microsoft released final Windows 8 name and number of editions

Microsoft has officially announced that there will primarily be three editions of Windows 8:
Windows 8,
Windows 8 Pro
Windows 8 RT
While Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro are designed for x86 and x64 processors, Windows 8 RT will only
be available pre-installed on PCs and tablets powered by ARM processors.



Windows RT
This is the version of Windows 8 that was formerly known as WOA or Windows on ARM. This will be a single edition that will be pre-installed on devices powered by ARM processors.

Windows 8
This will be a version of Windows 8 designed for x86/x64 editions of Windows. This will be the base version of Windows 8 and will probably be more than enough for the average consumer.

Windows 8 Pro
This will also be a version of Windows 8 designed for x86/x64 editions of Windows.

and Microsoft Team says :As with previous versions of Windows, we will also have an edition of
Windows 8 specifically for those enterprise customers with Software Assurance agreements. Windows 8 Enterprise includes all the features of Windows 8 Pro plus features for IT organization that enable PC management and deployment, advanced security, virtualization, new mobility scenarios, and much more.

What does RT mean? And also only 3 versions?

Windows RT is the official name for what Microsoft had been calling Windows On ARM. It's a new version of Windows designed to run on low-powered ARM processors, which are used in a lot of tablets today (including the iPad) because they offer longer battery life than the Intel-type processors used in traditional PCs.
ues tell now just 3 version...but i think Microsoft will release other version in the end of this year like windows 8 entreprise

 

Windows RT? I hear about it first time. Windows 8 is good for tablets or touch screens. Nothing more.

 

I have also used Windows 8 . it is really good for Tablet or touch screens
But not suitable for Dextop or non touch screen device. Windows 7 is suitable for those.

 

Wake me up for windows 9.... windows 7 rocks, windows 8 will suck. Its the nature of their releases.

I try windows 8 beta version but i don't like new windows. So i comeback to my previous windows7. Great and marvelous windows.

 

I don't think i need windows 8, windows 7 is the best so far.

 

Windows 8 is good for touch devices its not good for PC i don't like windows 8 either.

 

Is it true? If so i am waiting for that......

 

Hello everyone! Thank you very much to Saldrias for such interesting information about Windows 8, Windows Pro and Windows 8 RT. Those posted table reflect main features of these three windows system! In such a way it’s easy to compare and to choose the better one!

 

I think Windows 8 just really good for tablet. i love Windows 7. it's the best now
