I started thinking about the impact of Microsft releasing a product called "Origami" will be on the search engines. It's quite a popular topic (the hobby), and it's very possible that those craft sites will be wiped from the search engines by pages about Microsoft's gadget. Last month the keyword suggestion tool is showing 2.4k searches/day for "origami" from Overture. I would be worried if I had top sites in that market. That got me thinking about how search engines decide what is relevant. A tech/web related topic like this new MS gadget is likely to gain more incoming links than a hobby like Origami. Right now I'm showing one of the "Google Suggestion" boxes when I search for Origami, asking if I meant to search for "Microsoft Origami". Blogged about it here.
Yep. I hate when big companies name their new gizmo or product a word that has been around forever. MS has a huge marketing team, can't they come up with a more unique phrase to describe their hunk of junk?
Yeah would certainly suck if you had a keyword ranked up high for origami. Anyone here actually effected by this? Hopefully not as no doubt microsoft will be number 1 for that keyword. Brad
