Too many people look at Windows graphics and determine that makes it a better operating system but that interface is not the operating system. Compared to any Linux/BSD/Unix, they run circles around Windows core OS and spit in Windows face. There is no comparison if you understand the inner workings. This is why there are so many issues with Windows, even version to version, and they will continue till Microsoft dumps the core kernel.

I love ubuntu, and people look at graphics, and forget the BERYL project... it rungs rings around most things.... the only problem is linux isn't user friendly for some... it's easier for a new user to get right into windows than messing around in the synaptic package manager of linux etc, though it is gettin better

I think it's depend on various factors. Sometimes, I use Free OS(surely is Linux / anything else is better?) , mostly on network jobs, hacking, script coding , etc. Sometimes, I use Windows, mostly on Graphic, Web design, Game, etc. Windows is excel on numerous of producers but both OS can emulate the other(VMware / Wine).

Universally Windows is the most popular that being used. It's like an empire system. Windows is really an OS for an ordinary house/office use. But acquiring this OS is really expensive. Linux on the other hand is for the people who is really a technical users. There is many things that Linux can comprehend with. But this OS is really hard to use if you are not that technically user. They give you a more idea on how much more can a computer do. Also Linux is free for everyone and can be acquired by anyone. This is what I can call a Republican type of OS.

But Linux is evolving to be more user friendly and giving people wants for an OS.

I use both Windows and Linux. But between both OS I like Linux more than Windows. My favorite distro is Arch Linux and I only boot Windows when I want to play games.

Has anyone tried that one OS out there? It's not Linux but supposedly a rewritten Windows type of deal? I just wondered.

Have a look at all the software you use and find the open source / Unix analogues. If you are prepared to try them out, I'd suggest running a Live CD for a linux distro (such as Ubuntu, or, my preference, Fedora). Test it out and if you don't find it horribly confusing, install it to disk and get all your applications running and pull your data over. I know the Fedora distro can read NTFS formatted disks with no problem.

Switching is like jumping into a cold pool: You have to do it at once or you will find yourself backing out.
