Microsoft Office Word 2007 - page numbering help!

(If this is the wrong place for this I apologise, I wasn't sure where it fit)

I'm formatting my book for submission to Lulu.com for publishing. They have a lot of specifics for formatting.

As with all manuscripts, your title page, copyright page, contents page and any blank pages cannot have page numbers on them, but the page where your first chapter begins must have the page number and it can't say page 1 for example, it has to start at the right number. Say I have 5 pages without numbers at the start of the book, then my first page of Chapter One would have to say page 6.

So I'm having a lot of trouble, and tutorials aren't helping me because no one seems to have a tutorial for Word 2007!

So if anyone could help I'd really really really appreciate it!

    Thanks!

    Go to the View menu

    there select Header and Footer

The header and footer bar will appear

the fourth icon from the right is "Switch between header and footer" - click that

Now the third icon from the left is "format page number"

Ok I under stand your pain same problem that i had. What you will need to do is break your paper up into parts. Have the copyright, contents and pages that don't need number as a part in it self like Part 1 for example.
With how far you are already what I would do is copy the pages that you don't need numbers on > open a new document > paste the content > remove the page number feature on the header and or footer > save document as yourpapaer1

Go back to your original document delete those first few pages and the numbering will right it self.

Now that your good for this paper just make sure that in the future that you have different documents for the pages that don't need numbers.

For my business plan that I did for school I had:

Part 1: cover page, title, date, etc.
    Part2: Table of contents.
Part3: The meat of the paper.

And just printed them off separately and just put them together before I handed the paper in.

Good Luck with getting it published!

Hallo this is along time post, but if you did get the right answer well and good if not, then use this. open your word document, go to the page where you want numbering to start with your mouse there, click on the insert menu, page number, choose the current position for your numbering to start there, after which go back to page number select format page numbers, select start at button then choose the number to start with i.e. 5
