And if you want it simple, and you have broadband, just use Google Docs!

Except Google Spreadsheet can't handle anything complex.

I use open office as i too like the pdf function where you can just change files to pdfs

i do think the power point version need a lot of work ( Impress)
as that just dose not have the power that powerpoint has its very hard to use most of the time i find.

but over all open office is great i use it a lot more the Ms office as when i am using MAC or Liunx i use a bit more. it growing fast and becoming easy to use yet office 2007 is harder to use intill you get use to it which takes a very long time

i think one day it will be as good as ms office with out the stuff we dont need :p
its very good and i am becoming a great fan of of it i also like what is happing with staroffice as well

Sure. As I said, "if you want it simple".

I think that most people really do want it simple. Like a car: I don't want ten thousand different settings for my car; I just want to get in and have it go!

I used MS Office 2007, if you're a student in the UK tehn it's only £40, not bad at all tbh.

I've used OO since I replaced MO 2000 with it. I just recently picked up MO 2007 because I found a great deal on it. I was surprised at how much of a improvement MO 2007 is over previous editions. I've been using MO now as my primary office suite.

OO is a good solid office suite which will meet the needs of most users, but it's currently lacking in features when compared with Office 2007. The strongest selling point of OO is the price compared to MO. The only reason I'm using Office 2007 right now is because I was able to buy a license for $19.

If you just need a word processor and basic spreadsheet support. Then OO is the way to go. If you need to work on more complicated office tasks such as large number crunching spreadsheets that are integrated with an access database, then office 2007 would be a better choice.

I agree. Also, the changes in Word 2007 were abruptly implemented. They should have at least released a "transition" Word version.
