I have just replaced MS Office with OpenOffice to give it a trial, what do you guys think is better. And don't vote unless you have tried both, we all know MS Office is good, but which do you think is better?

I have used both, but have opted for Office 07. Though OpenOffice is good, and is excellent for it's value, it looks old when compared to newer microsoft Office versions. If i didn't have MS Office 07, then i would opt for openOffice as it is a powerful and complete office solution.

Ah well I have both but I kind of prefer MS Office, although for a free application pack you can't go wrong, definatly good for businesses or people on tight budgets.

Overall MS Office 2007 wins, but I have to admit, OpenOffice is definatly a 1st choice if I decide to change.

I like Openoffice better tha Microsoft 2007, granted that MS has more features, but with OpenOffice you can read word, excel and access but not vice versa. Also the most important thing is after finishing a doc file I can easily convert it to pdf without using another 3rd party program. The last but not least, it is FREE and is updated frequently with more and more attractive features.

I like Office 2007, offers more feature than OO and has a nice look. Though I'm a big fan of Open Source softwares, but not a fan OO.

I think it depends on your needs. My needs are pretty simple and Open Office is just fine for me.

I use Microsoft Office just because more people use it ( i have the 2003 version). When I get a mac i'm just going to use Open Office because i'm not going to bother buying Microsoft Office for Mac.

my first alternative option if ms office wasnt available would be office. Its a really good freeware program but because ms office has been here for so long, its hard for people to switch. I still haven't switched but i gave it a try. Recommended for small budgets or to people who believe in "buying" software.

    OpenSource or Microsoft?

Tough one, but OpenSource is what matters - I am sure OpenOffice.org will get more updates and become superior to Microsoft Office soon.

My vote is for OpenOffice. It has the features to meet most needs without being bloated. And you can't argue with its price.

As much as i want to say OpenOffice. I really do like MO. Although Open Office does have some nice features it still isnt quite up to par with MO. I may in the future switch over. And really for something free. You cant go wrong.

I know earlier versions of MS Word very well indeed. Yet, when I upgraded to Vista, I found the new MS Word 2007 was so different that I struggled to use it.

My wife found 2007 totally frustrating and almost unusable.

I loaded OO onto both of our machines, and guess what... we both found it easier to use and find our way around.

Yes, there are some fancy features that OO doesn't have. So what? I'm not into desktop publishing. To me, MS is like buying a car with so many gimmicks, I can't even find the steering wheel.

I don't think I'll ever buy another MS Office. It's too complicated. I guess it's useful for expert document writers, but not for me.

OpenOffice.org is fine for me. OpenOffice.org is a powerful and complete office solution, and not so complicated as MS Office.

Open office does everything that I need it to do, and for free. Never had a problem with it yet. Its a great alternative to MS Office.

    I agree completely ;)

Though my computer came preinstalled with Wordperfect Office which is also a powerful office suite so i have a lot of choices if MS is out of favour.

The latest release of open office is good and have alot of options compared to its older versions. In my office due to license problem we converted all our PCs to use Open Office and our staffs are very familiar with it. My vote is for Open Office only.

I'm a big fan of open office, it can do all the needed things that Microsoft Office and do and for free. However MO seems to have more features at the time, so I'd say its better. Not worth the price, but better.
