It has been announced that Microsoft offers special prices for its products for students in Russia. Those prices are approximately ten (!) times lower than usual ones (~$40 for MS Office 2007 in opposite to ~$400). Pirated software is widely spread there so this may be a way to go for Microsoft! This is very nice from Microsoft to take care of students who can't spend a lot of money for the software. I wonder if there is something similar in any other countries? How will this develop in the future?
They've been doing this for a number of years here in the US. My son just bought Office 2008 for $60.
really!?!? wow dang do you just goto to ms and say your a student and purchase it through there? because it'd be a great help!
He got it through the campus bookstore. You can do it online, I believe, but you have to show proof you are a student somehow.
drhowarddrfine, Yes, they ask for proofs, not only for your student ID but, I beleive, also ping your university to check if you are still a student (for example if you were thrown out from the university in the beginning of the term for some reason you still can keep your student ID so I beleive they ask for more proofs).
I still remember last year i won MS office student edition 2007 in a graphic competition. Im still going with it, it really is a great one.
Sure? Legal or pirated copy? Seemed to be far too cheap compared to those retailing in other countries.
In Ukraine you can get the whole Office package + Windows for $5... The CD-keys are printed directly on the cd-box which is usually a common slim.
I mean sure $40 is great, but if someone can get a fully functional copy for $0 then i think they would go with that
Not really. If I can get a fully functional copy for $0 legally I will go for that. But in no way do I go for pirated ones. That's why I am using Open Office.
yes they do. We at the technical university in Romania get all products for free, except Office and games released by microsoft. There is a program for students, called MSDN Academic Alliance. We are talking of professional tools like Visual Studio Pro, Windows 2008 Server Datacenter edition and all the others for free. It's very nice of them.
