With this string of hits from Apple (iPod, iPhone, etc), could they start to make a dent in Microsoft and other competitors?

Good point! I wonder if Wallstreet is just cautious or they honestly don't think these new products will sell well enough.

I've read a lot on the MacBook Air in the past few days, and most of what I see is that it's totally awesome but way too expensive. It also doesn't have FireWire ports which is used a lot in video-editing, which is why most people choose a MacBook in the first place. And it doesn't have an optical drive? I used to sell MacBooks to the government who used them from presentations everyday. For them, an optical drive is a MUST!

That could be tough since the laptop looks like it's not much thicker than a cd.

no it doesn't have a cd but it does have the capability to access cd and dvd drives wirelessly ... i'm not really sure how advantageous that is for business travellers using it but it does have that capability

I find only one good features in this:
    1) it is thin and light

And nothing else is good with MacBook Air.

It dont have following necessary perripherals:
external Optical Drive, LAN Adapter & one USB HUB. you have to add them as external device and buy them seperate. So price again increases.

I will sugggest to buy Sony Vaio VGN SZ740 Ultraportable rather than MacBook Air.Its price is less than MacBook Air, and features are more than double.

The street on whole has been off about 5% the last couple of days.

AAPL has been off 10%. Big difference.

In the past AAPL has bucked the street trends because analysts and investors have been in love with AAPLs new toys and their sales. I would say the Street selling off AAPL ever since the introduction of the new tablet (I wouldn't even call it a notebook because it doesn't have the functionality) is a referendum on what the Street thinks the sales of the new product will be.

MacBook Air will not be a big hit with a price tag of $1799...

    Where MacBook Air slips...
    1) No gamer would purchase it -> not a good graphic card
    2) The Price shuts the door for many college students and students in general (A major market)
    3) Thin isnt strong..

Lighter, yet way slower? If you purchase a normal macbook at $1799 over a macbook air at $1799, you are basically loosing a lot of speed and power and a dvd drive.. lol

    The flip side
    - Great for Biz Peeps (Lightens the load)
    - Great for Teachers as well
    - Perfect for Bloggers and webmasters

so basically MacBook Air is a travelers dream..

But what about Tablet Laptops.. I believe these 2 types of laptops will put up a good fight..

Tablet PC vs MacBook Air.. sounds like an emerging war..

Whether it is successfully depends, Ipod technology itself is not revoluntary, but Apple marketing is! When you talk about MP3 you refer them as Ipods which shows how great the brand penetration is. We will have to see if Apple did another wonder on Macbook Air though, it would be instructive from a marketing point of view to see how Apple does its marketing wonders.
