Yes, they both seem to ahve picked up the AP feed. I'll have to head over to the Yahoo thread and see what is being said.

I agree, I dont think they would put the back and Yahoo! through the talkes again if they are not serious.

I still believe Google would lead, although it would be better for some power to be taken away from google, their owning too much lol.

this is pretty big, Microsoft has the $50bn cited for yahoo in cash, so buying it is.. not the hard part.

Justfying the cost is. Why buy yahoo:

Yahoo has a better search than microsoft (they at least have most pages on the internet indexed already)

Yahoo ads system is far more mature than microsoofts

Yahoo has major datacenter space to compete with google, while microsoft trys to built there own to catch up

Yahoo is dominant in a lot of areas that microsoft would love, personal homepage, finance, email so on so forth.

Why not buy yahoo, its a big complecated caked company that would need a lot of restructuring to intergrate with microsoft. they have $50bn in cash to buy yahoo, but is buying yahoo the best way to become a major player against google?

I don't want it to happen.....competition drives innovation which leads to a better product for the end consumer

Good, I can't get email into msn.com so if they take over Yahoo that would be another email address I would have to tell people not to use because I am sure the same crap would happen. Not sure if anyone else has this problem, but I am on no SPAM list I can find, and MSN told me to signup for with their partner at $1000.00 a year and that would help me, yeah right...

Plus I think we need Yahoo as it is, as was said "competition" is good.

It doesn't quite work that way. YHOO's market cap is $42 billion.

I think Microsoft are freaking out that they are still 3rd on the ladder, and the only way to get any higher is to buy out the 2nd best. Instead of being inventive, wow with 50 billion they could almost buy the world. Very interesting, Something tells me I dont think it will go through. Yahoo are still quite committed to continue on there own
