No way! They still have the most popular email and instant messenger service, split into two divisions (live and hotmail), they have a search engine which nobody uses (still, it's a search engine! ), and most importantly they have the operating system which 90% of the worlds computers are running. Also the most popular office software and some other stuff.
The usage of Microsoft operating systems may decrease but the company itself will never die.. The only reason I say this about their operating system usage is because of their new lack of security, crappy applications (ie7), and the fact that they completely rip off Apple's GUI and interaction features. Windows XP is still the best OS in my opinion, but I don't like the new trend Microsoft is taking.. hopefully this is just a another fluke like Windows ME and some of their other short lived operating systems they've created..
i also dont like the way they are going, when they stop updates for winxp (early next year if i remember right) im gonna have to switch to a secure OS, and if they haven't made one better than vista by then i'll stick with xp for a year or so, then go linux. and eventually probably end up with a mac.
No way... they've got web based Office coming out soon, and with the dominance of the Office format, I'd say Google Docs is pretty much over, along with Zoho, etc. Plus, with Mesh and Windows Azure, it's the beginning of a comeback on the internet.
Microsoft Search may have a limited shelf life, but Microsoft as a company is a long way from failling.
I don't see the end of Microsoft. I don't think this is possible in the next years. They are too big a company to just crumble down.
That's like saying Exxon Mobil reported a loss this quarter. Oh wait they reported a $14billion increase.
Definitely. Microsoft revenue has been on the decline the last two quarters and they have said next quarter will also be lower. Microsoft is late into the web business and online applications while the "web as the OS" is taking off. Microsoft is already considered "of no consequence" when startups make their plans. For the person above who thinks Google Docs are dead, whole countries have switched to Google Docs from Office, as have large corporations. While I don't think MS will go entirely away, two years ago I said Microsoft would become another IBM or, worse, Sun. They're around, and they do OK, but you never hear of them anymore, at least in these circles. This is why MS has had such a flurry of new product announcements at the PDC recently; much of it could be vaporware but they have to show something to their investors. In the meantime, this year, Microsoft's stock price has dropped 40%, and not just recently. MS has never been a high flyer. After the 2000 stock market 'bubble' its price has just ridden sideways, varying up/down somewhat but never taking off and never crashing (though it has taken a dip below that low end recently, a dangerous sign).
WUT? Am I reading this wrong? http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2008/jul08/07-17fy08Q4earnings.mspx Which "whole countries" have switched to Google Docs? Or at least which "large corporations"? I'm not being rude, I really would like to know because I wasn't able to find any other than an announcement saying Washington DC was using Google docs lol. Instead of me digging to find it, could you share which ones you meant when writing the above? So you're saying it's known that they've have a flurry of new product announcements just to please investors? You sure it has nothing to do with drumming up interest, priming the brand marketing pump, or preparing current and potential partners? I'm looking at Microsoft's stock 2 year performance and it looks about the same trend wise as Google. However Intel and AMD have dropped big time so I guess that means computers are on their way out.
I still like Windows XP, but i am moving over to Ubuntu 8.10 Linux soon. You would be suprised just how many large coroporations are running Linux on their servers these days. I do not think that they will die out, but i am sure Google is trying to give them a good run for their money. ~ Mike
Microsoft left us, the normal people, to google and other companies while it covered the giant business models (thousands of companies and ministries use sharepoint for their websites now).
Never. Never. Never. I personally like Microsoft, since childhood, compared to Google Corp. They have so many employees, offices, $$$ and customers. Bill and Melinda gates foundation is doing a lot compared to Google.org. Plus the number of products is endless... Windows, Office, Live.com, IIS, MCSE certification, .net programming, MSDN, Channel 9, Sharepoint and the list goes on.
Haha, they never give up do they? Not too sure why people hate Microsoft so much? If compared to google which heavily relies on advertising, Microsoft is a much more flexible company with divesified products. Just look at yahoo who depends heavily on advertisement and when google came knocking strong they fall real fast.
i think microsoft last days will be when "nobody want to use any product of microsoft "or maybe "when end of the world~"
I don't think so. Many people are still using windows and its the only one who have quality support for companies...
