As I said a few weeks ago, Microsoft will begin offering other browsers to users of IE and on new Windows installations. After $2.44 billion in fines from the EU, users will be given the choice of up to 12 different browsers to install instead of IE.

Sweet, that will save me like 30 seconds not having to download and install FireFox every time I have a fresh Windows install! That's around once a year, I just wasted more time with this reply already lol.

Now if Ford would just agree to offer Chevy floor mats in their new cars I'd be sold! ;)

Curious, does Apple offer FireFox with new computers?

You don't understand the issue. Microsoft performed illegal anti-trust activities which caused this. The US has Microsoft under Federal oversight for this same reason.

Microsoft was fined because they have a monopoly in a certain market and refuse to let competition enter that market.

A lot of people think internet explorer and msn are the internet. That is because internet explorer comes with windows.

What really needs to happen is for microsoft to be broken up into pieces, and each piece form its own company.

from a developer standpoint how open and compatitble is it from browser to browser? Sounds good that they are doing this but will it cause more issues with compatibility?

well its true. A lot of the people I know thought that there's only Internet Explorer and they use only that. That ballot screen may cause some heads spinning but I foresee an increase in Chrome's and Mozilla's market share. Sooner or later, IE would be obsolete
