Microsoft said on Thursday it plans to keep selling its Windows XP operating system until the end of June 2008, delaying a scheduled transition to its newer Windows Vista software by five months.

    The reason is : -

Some customers have voiced displeasure with Vista due to a lack of compatibility with existing software programs and devices. The hardware requirements needed to run Vista also are a significant upgrade from many older computers.

Thank god! I uninstalled Vista on my laptop after the first 3 errors, and the long wait times. So basically, I took Vista off the same day I got my laptop.

Smart move on MS's part.. I use XP pro and Kubuntu.. There is no Vista on my agenda.. I have not even tried Vista and do not really even care too after all the reports, I have heard from lots of users.. What it sounds like is this.. All Vista sounds like is an over bearing, mucho prompt window, resource hogging pile of garbage.

If they totally took XP away.. I would probably move over to nix full time as my go to production machine and leave MS in the rear view mirror..

While I love vista's pretty face, there were too many incompatibilities for me and the security prompts (business version) drove me nuts even after turning them off.

I yanked my hard drive, installed a new one and installed XP. So, if I choose to give vista another try, after a reasonable service pack, I can swap drives again.

Until then, I'll stay with what works. I'm tired of being microsoft's test dummy. :)

My girlfriends brand new lap top runs fine with vista. It's got a Core 2 Duo,2GB Ram and and Nvidia gfx card. So if vista is slow your pc probably is out dated. As I said in the other thread it was the same exact thing when people went from Win98 to XP because win XP like vista added alot of eye candy.

Glad to see M$ listening to there customers though.

Oh and if your having problems installing things in vista, use the compatibility manager. ;)

    That's some good news.
It was expected though... considering all the complains about Vista.

In truth, they're just giving software developers more time to make thier software and drivers Vista compatable. The advances made in Vista require more hardware resources, which is the usual. Ever since Windows 95, evey subsequent OS updrade required significantly more hardware resources.

Vista is good if you have a good computer that is minimum dual core with 2gb ram +.

I use to be a vista hater when it first came out because they did not have all my drivers, but now they do and I have used it for about 2 months now and it's fine.

For all the people who think vista sucks, it's just your computer that sucks. Stop complaining about vista and go buy a new computer, it's 2008.

I just bought a new computer, vendor keep telling me to put in Vista, I told him I take XP, I use the computer normally for playing games and I can tell you that Vista still have a lot of problems supporting the games or the games support Vista whatever......

Good that Microsoft knows and that XP lifetime is extended, but frankly whether or not it is extended I still go for XP.
