Two months back Microsoft released a tool to help developers to port iPhone apps to Windows Phone 7 and now the Redmond has announced a support for Android.
On June 9 Microsoft proudly announced the support for Android to its API Mapping Tool. To help Android application developers Microsoft also published a guide.
In April, Microsoft explained how it worked on the Windows Phone Developer Blog:
With this tool, iPhone developers can grab their apps, pick out the iOS API calls, and quickly look up the equivalent classes, methods and notification events in WP7. A developer can search a given iOS API call and find the equivalent WP7 along with C# sample codes and API documentations for both platforms.
Microsoft officials on June 9 published on Windows Phone Developer blog:
We are continuing to expand the scope of the API Mapping tool and the technical guidance. Our next step is to include the Mango features into the API Mapping tool (planned for this summer).

Proudly?!! I'd be embarrassed as hell! You can't get developers to write code for your own platform so you have to get it from others?!!

Microsoft is a loser organization. No innovation. Nothing new under the sun. Follow, don't lead.

I read the blog and its quite nice to know that instead of seeking to dominate everywhere single handedly, MS is now info working with what people like by making its product (and in the case of porting iPhone apps to Android) helping people who work on MS platform to get things done for other platforms. Nice direction MS

No. It's an act of desperation. No one buys Windows phones and no one develops for them for that same reason. So they hope people on other platforms will waste their time and port their products to the unused Windows phones. Developers have better things to do than waste their time on non-competitive products from Microsoft.

This is great news! Though it's going to benefit developers only if Windows Phone 7 actually takes off and gets a good user base, which is supposed to happen when Nokia finally releases their WP7 phones...

IF Nokia is still in business and IF they release a Windows phone at all! In the financial world, the question is raised whether this is a stop-gap measure till they finish their Symbian operating system but the problem with that is developers are leaving Nokia in droves as are their marketing people.

In the meantime, since the announced partnership with Microsoft, Nokia's stock price has been cut in half, a sign that investors have no faith in any of this.

Microsoft are no good, they are too old, paying nokia to put there own OS onto it, is an act of desperation as well as this.
If no one wants it, they 'Bribe' others into it, this is what they done with the xbox 360.

At least it will be now easy for the developers to port their Apps To Windows Platform instead of writing the APPs from scratch. With the release of Windows Phone 7 Microsoft is trying to dominate the Mobile World.

If I were in Nokia's position I wouldn't be placing all my eggs in one basket. What's the harm in producing both Android and Windows devices? Say what you want about the WP7 software, but their hardware always gets positive reviews.
