Microsoft Acquires AdECN

    Hello everyone,

For those of you who have not yet heard Microsoft has acquired AdECN, a neutral online advertising exchange. With Google's acquisition of DoubleClick and Yahoo's acquisition of Right Media, the three Internet giants are once again toe to toe in competition. Here is a portion of a Press Release from Microsoft:

Canep Media is a full seat-holder in the AdECN Exchange, and we received a few concerned inquiries that Microsoft will take over the show, and leave other networks in AdECN high and dry. I have been assured that AdECN although working with Microsoft will retain its neutrality amongst all networks. Here is a portion of an article on the issue published by ClickZ:

Some of you may be thinking how does this affect me? If you are an advertiser with Canep Media or another seat holding network at AdECN, you will soon have access to premium inventory on Microsoft properties. If you are a publisher, 60,000 Microsoft AdCenter advertisers will soon enter the auctions and bid against each other to purchase your inventory, ultimately increasing your earnings.

This is a very exciting time for both Canep Media and AdECN, opportunities to work with more inventory and more advertisers on such a large scale do not occur very often. Please share your opinions on the matter, as we are definitely looking for feedback from both our publishers/advertisers as well as industry professionals.

I don't think the goal was to get on par with anyone, I think the goal was to go in a new direction, and supersede the other two Internet giants by being a part of the first truly neutral online advertising exchange. By being the first to embrace this model they are taking the lead in the industry, not getting on par with the competition.

This thread was created to announce the acquisition of AdECN and receive feedback on the acquisition from Canep Media's publishers and advertisers. I feel this thread is warranted because a significant portion of our client base holds membership at the DigitalPoint forums.

If a moderator or administrator feels differently I will have no objection to having this thread modified or removed per their discretion.

AdBrite is not exactly an exchange, it is much more of an ad network. The term advertising exchange is used far too loosely. An Exchange is supposed to be a place where networks are able to barter to buy and sell traffic. Right Media was already pushing the line by letting direct advertisers and publishers in, but AdBrite is not even close. They operate with only advertisers and publishers, there is no bartering between networks, AdBrite is nothing but a typical ad network, nothing more.
