Now I know what you are thinking...what am I thinking using MSMM trying to create an actual DVD slideshow using pics and vids. To be honest I thought I would just give it a try. I use Vegas Video for my 'real' editing but MM seemed like a good fit for me based on the simple things I was doing. Basically I wanted to import about 477 pictures and 33 avi movie clips, add transitions, maybe a song or two and be done with it. Well I've got the storyboard all done except for the music, and while I know it's a large project, the POS keeps crashing on me! So not only so I have to wait 38mins for the entire project to load...once it almost gets done it invariable craps out on me. Or if I do in fact get the thing loaded it says it cannot render the file...but of course it does not tell me why My point, other than I hate MS more than I ever have before...what's a good program to create a DVD slideshow? I have like 4 other programs that came bundled with various things but they all seem to fall short in one area or the other it's so bad that while I was reporting the MSMM error, the watson debugger crashed also how do they even look themselves in the mirror??
Are you running the latest 'bug free' 2.1 version? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx
Not sure what you're on about. It is easy to MS bash. A friend of mine created a DVD of his wedding using Movie Maker with a combo of videos and pictures and it turned out brilliantly. As already mentioned, perhaps you have an older version or have some other software which is clashing with the program.
I guess I need to check that it's only easy b/c they make it so easy. you think any apple users are scratching their bum, right now trying to make a slide show you might be right though, a conflict of some kind does exist
there was in fact a conflict that was preventing MM from loading the entire project, "ace mega codecs" was interfering somehow. Now that the offending codec pack has been removed, MM still refuses to render the project. ....ah but wait. the only way it will render the file is if I use the absolute highest res & sampling option DV-AVI I guess a 8GB movie is better than no movie @ all!!
oh but it is! maybe 5 months old; AMD 5200+ Dual (2.2 GHz) with 2GB of Ram. I can only imagine the sheer torture of my friend who had oodles of trouble last months while trying to use MM. It crashed on him about 7 times during the course of the week and took forever and a day to render on account of him having an old machine. needless to say I am still waiting on MM to render the file. I had to cancel it in fact. It got ALL THE WAY to 22% complete and just sat there forever....for more than 3 hours it did not budge off of 22%. The funny thing was the "Time until completion" continually rose...84 mins, 222 mins, 488mins. I think I shut it off when it said 849mins. 849mins so what? I guess I need to cut the video into 5 parts and render each one separately?? Don't want to hit that 22% threshold but oh, I'm the bad guy b/c I bitch about MS...I WONDER why!!
update on my simple quest to render a freakin video. 7th time was the charm, it actually rendered the entire movie...of course the audio from the video(s) is out of sync in at least 4 places... it took the audio from 2 of the clips and pasted itself over clips it wasn't supposed to! so let's see...attempt #8: oh, would you look @ that...big surprise and again, it crashed the watson post mortem debugger, and actually won't close the program @ all...I have to do a hard kill from the task manager
I use WMM all the time; p*ss easy and never crashes.. sounds like your computer is a bit dodgy or maybe the files you're loading in aren't right..
Well in the few times I've loaded up WMM (About 5) It's crashed once. So If i ever do make a project on it I'm always going to be hitting that save key to be safe.
always a possibility. I finally got it to go. y, thankfully it didn't **ck me over as far as that goes...it didn't wipe out work it just took several attempts to render what I wanted!
someone actually makes an app to fix wmm issues...faster-pc.net/lp/?gclid=CJrdtZv90I0CFSBMGgodGlI_mQ I wonder if it works!
