Microsoft promises rewards for search engine use

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - Microsoft on Friday began offering large businesses rewards if they have employees scout the Internet with the software giant's Live Search service.
In a move intended to wrest users from rival search engines such as market-dominating Google, Microsoft will give business customers service or training credits based on how much employees use Live Search.

It would be great if they get something like 30% share of the market.

Yahoo lost a considerable chunk of search volume recently. MSN is growing slowly but Google continues to grow much faster. There is no way MSN is moving anywhere near #1. You ought to see some of the large competition phrases I rank for on MSN and Google. MSN produces only a few hits a month while Google sends thousands. It is really easy to see that MSN is way behind.

But the news likes to get people going:p

Aint gunna happen.. just will not happen.
I remember about 6 or 8 months ago, a few top MSN Execs, including Ballmer, making predictions of toppling Google with the new "Live" .. Pfft.. Live/MSN search still accounts for only about 1% of my traffic..

That is correct. The top guy was all excited about flying past Google. They made some okay changes but made no significant leaps. The fact still remains they don't have the experience or knowledge to come close to Google. Until they figure that out they will go nowhere.
