I usually look at the MOB number and then the sites in the top 10. If it looks like they don't have that many backlinks, I go for it. BTW: are you have trouble and getting CAPTCHA on all you searches?

THE SOC & MOB numbers are what to look at, the lower the better. After you get the number, click on the MOB and you can view the top 10 results in google and see the backlinks for each. It's a judgment call as to if you think your site can beat them in SERPs

I use MNF and in addition to the excellent advice on SOC and MOB numbers from ServerUnion, I look at the exact competing sites column and pick the keyword that has under 100,000 with global or local searches in my target range. This range depends on if I'm building a mini-site or a larger authority site but generally I want to have a minimum of 5000 monthly searches for all my keywords for the site.

    Hi Aniltc,

In MNF, I organize the Global Search column, looking for results between 3600 and 40,000 for broad searches. I hide everything else. Then, I look up the OCI (intent to buy) for any terms that are left (have green SOC and meet the Global Search numbers). I like an OCI of at least 70. Others will go lower, but that's what I like. If the people searching on that term don't have an intent to buy, I want to base my site or article on that term. Again, I hide anything that doesn't pass both tests.

Then I look at the phrase counts. I want less than 2 million competing pages. If I'm still unsure, I look at the MOB to tell me how many backlinks the top results have. Last, I type the term into Google Search to see the top results and who I would be competing against.

If I'm looking for article titles, this is enough for me. If I'm looking for a domain name, then I check the domain availability column before I do any of the searches after organizing the Global Search column. I love MNF 5. it makes the search so much easier.

    Hope this helps.

Everyone has a different opinion, but I like the ones with an SOC under 20. Hope that helps.

    Good Luck!
