Well tonight is the Michigan primary and I didn't see a thread about it so I thought I'd create one. What do you guys think the outcome will be? A lot of people think this is Romney's state to win (especially since he's from there), which would certainly make it interesting considering two different people won the [major] states before this (no one really cares about Wyoming). Romney is in first right now according to CNN.

With 8% reporting here is the current count (it goes name, votes, percent, and delegates won):

    Republicans:
    Romney
    30,534

Romney has been projected the winner at 37%, McCain, No.2, 31%, Huckabee, 3, 16%. But ABC is projecting on 9% reporting.

I pretty sure that Obama and Edwards are not on the ballot in Michigan.

They aren't. The Michigan Dem vote doesn't mean anything.

Democrats get no delegates from Michigan, they are being penalized.

That is correct because Michigan move up their primary some democrat candidates pulled out of the Michigan primary and the democratic party pulled their 120 delegates out of Michigan.

I think this win paves the way for Giuliani. With no clear leader for the republican party it allows for him to win key states such as Flordia, New York, New Jersey and California

Yay for Ron Paul in 4th... Small moral victory but this will be his best finish thus far.

I also think it's good for the Ron Paul campaign that a 3rd different candidate came in first. This muddies the water further, there is no Republican front runner.

I don't think it's going to work out for Giuliani. He's lost his lead in the national polls* (ie the Feb. 5 states.) I suppose if he can take Florida** it may boost him up prior to Feb. 5 ... he needs that.

*Latest national polls: McCain 30%, Huckabee 19%, Giuliani 13%, Romney 13% ... Romney will likely get a boost from winning Michigan.

**Florida is currently very close: McCain 21%, Giuliani 21%, Huckabe 18%, Romney 17%

To me it looks like McCain, even with today's loss, is most likely to win this thing... But a lot can happen between now and Feb. 5... Definitely not in the bag for anyone yet.

Not according to the polls I'm looking at. McCain 28%, Huckabee 19%, Romney 17%, Thompson 16%, Paul 5%, Giuliani 5%.

I think Thompson may drop out after a 4th place finish in SC. That'll be it for him. The question is, who will his supporters go to?

Oh, that explains it. I knew that Michigan was getting punished for moving up the primary, just didn't know Obama and Edwards weren't on the ballot.

Thompson is more popular in SC than in some other states, but its definetely not enough to win imo.

At 88% reported Romney leads with about 37% and McCain is 2nd with about 30% with Huckabee 3rd at 16%.

This further muddies the waters for the Republican candidates with all remaining competitive for ongoing primaries.

here is a link to exit polls from Michigan from MSNBC.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21228184

I love this stuff, finding it very interesting. The stuff that intriques me is when the percentages for any particular question show a dramatic skewed result from the overall vote totals (percentages) for a candidate. The interesting stuff occurred mostly for Romney, McCain, Huckabee, and Paul who IMO had a enough votes to see some significant skewing from the overall vote percentages to get a sense of where their respective support comes from.

I did predict a Giuliani v Clinton election a long long time ago, it could still happen.

And Clinton will win so it will be Bush's and Clinton's and Clinton's and Bush's and Bush's and Clinton's and Clinton's and Bush's and Bush's and Clinton's and Clinton's and Bush's.

An absolute disaster for the world, and especially for the American people. :(

The rest of the world is already leaving us in the dust on so many issues. It is the American people that will feel the pain like never before! As always the dumb and dumber will probably prevail.
