how many keywords should be in the keywords section of the meta tags? What do the search engine consider spam? I use Mambo CMS which really only allows global meta tags and i don't want to spam that. what is a good safe # of keywords to use?

Articles in Mambo can have their own meta tags - you set these in the admin panel when editing articles.

Plus custom modules can have them too [tutorial on adding head tags]

spam is where the words are repeated too frequently, if it looks like spam visually it probably is. Someone else will help you out with the exact numbers.

    Sarah-
I'm curious what your opinion is on setting using the page meta description/keywords. In the past, I've used both the global meta keywords/description AND the individual page meta keyword/description. Someone mentioned that I should only use the global meta tags. Ideally, there shoud be a way to have just the page meta tags show. Any suggestions? What's the best practice?

    Thanks.

Ooooh, I'm no expert on meta tags but "logic" tells you that they should be diff. on every page, otherwise why would you bother putting them on the other pages?

meta tags are deprecated but I would include them on a "can't hurt" basis.
That said, I frequently neglect meta tags on my site and focus on other aspects of the page. [IMG]

Use no more keyword meta tags than you need. If your going for one keyword phrase just use that phrase. In reality, keyword meta tags in themselves have a neglible impact on search engines. Where they come into their own is as a discipline for testing copy.

Yes, each page should have its own keyword meta tags.

In Mambo, we have to use Global Descriptions/keywords. We can use page keywords/descriptions. However, they get appended to the global descripition. So, for instance, let's say my global meta description is :A Treo resource features news, reviews and discussion. If I set up a page regarding Blackberry functionality, my meta description would end up being: A Treo resource features news, reviews and discussion., Treo now offers Blackberry functionality.

With regards to my keywords, it would add the page keywords to the end of my global keywords.

So, it's: global description, page description and global keywords, page keywords.

The problem is that the descriptions and keywords can become legnthy. Is that a problem. I plan on continuing to use Mambo, so need to make the best of it.

I appreciate any suggestions on this topic.

    Thanks.
    Chris
