Meta Tags

    I know something about meta tags, but don't know how does they help?

    They give information/keywords about a site, usually for search engines..

    Google doesn't use meta tags for indexing anymore, but that doesn't mean other SE's can't use the additional information!

    Meta tags are not the "magic bullet" that will skyrocket your site to the top of all search page listings. They are a tool that will help improve your standings in search engines that use them. Meta tags help search engines to categorize your site content, however new theories on net talk about search engines not using Meta tags much now and have their own algorithms to decide and choose content... Google would be of good help to get more info.

    Meta data usually provides the Title, Description, and Keywords for a page. This is for search engines, not for people. So it's a way of telling the search engines what your page is about. Some people would say that your title and description should contain your primary keyword and not more than once.
