meta tags in PHP

    I seem to be having trouble optimizing my meta tags. I am using Simple Machines forum software, a PHP driven program. Is that where I put the meta tags, in the PHP? I found where they would seemingly go and replaced them with my keywords, and instead of telling the robot not to index I told it to index. By the way I know absolutely nothing about PHP so if I'm not making any sense don't worry it's not you it's me. Anyways, any suggetions anyone?

    Meta tags don't go in the PHP. They go in the head of your XHTML/HTML code.
