    Im currently desiging my new site CVShark
    And was deciding what to write in the html meta tag's to get the best seo results? Was looking at the basic template for the metatag and found this
    <head>
    <meta name="description" content="Free Web tutorials" />
    <meta name="keywords" content="HTML,CSS,XML,JavaScript" />
    <meta name="author" content="Hege Refsnes" />

    So what would i want to to write in the metatags to get the best seo result!

    You'll simply want to put your keywords. Use adwords keyword tool in order to get the best keywords.

    You should concentrate mainly on keywords and content.

    Use your desired keywords separated by commas or downstrokes ( | ) as your description and keywords meta tags and make them specific to the topics and keywords of each page. To be honest though, meta tags don't really hold that much sway in search engine rankings any more because people used to spam them with keywords a lot.

    None of the <meta> elements really affect your pages from an SEO perspective.

    Almost every search engine on the planet ignores the <meta name="keywords"> element... and those that do not ignore it are worthless, no named search engines anyway that are not likely to drive even a single user to your site. You will rank the same in all of the major search engines whether you include this element or not. Most webmasters include it just to be complete... Generally limit it to 5-10 keyword phrases.

    Some search engines will display your <meta name="description"> element as the snippet of text between your <title> and URL in the SERPs, however again at most major search engines this <meta> element has NO affect on your rankings. Google, for instance, will show it as the snippet if your URL does not have a DMOZ entry AND your <meta name="description"> element contains EVERY keyword from the users search phrase. For this reason, writing a good <meta name="description"> is important, not for SEO purposes, but instead to increase your click-thru-rate.

    I disagree w/ Diego Wulfsten on his statement:

    in regards to the <meta name="description"> element. This element should not simply be a list of keywords separated by commas or pipe symbols. The <meta name="description"> element should be written as 1 or 2 sentences with a call to action to encourage the user to click on your SERP listing. It should be generally 145-150 characters max (max characters generally displayed by Yahoo! and Google, respectively, before truncating the description). Start your sentences with action words/call to action. Include ALL keywords from the <title> of the page. If your site is SEO'd properly MOST people will find that URL in the SERPs by searching for a keyword phrase from the <title>. So if you include all of the keywords from the <title> in your description then most of the time Google is going to show your hand written <meta name="description"> element.

    The rest of the <meta> elements really only contain <meta> data about the page and are of no value from an SEO perspective.

    I would include:

    To add to what Canonical said, don't forget to include the character encoding META tag, and make sure it matches up 100% with the character encoding the Web page was saved with (or used in the database) and what the Web server sends out.

    All of the major engines ignore it because of its history of being abused by blackhat SEOs.

    Which country are you targetting for you site? I have never even heard of a "CV" but reading your site it sounds like a resume maybe?

    See my reply below the next quote.

    No.

    The goal is to curbstomp, not ape them. Though if you're competing against someone like me, then you might as well stick to the forums because you'll learn what you need to do so effectively a lot faster. :D

    Its not just about the meta tags but also whether they have relevance to the content actually on that page.

    great info by canonical. If I might add, i don't use meta keywords no more as they are a good way for competitors to learn your keywords and save themselves the research. If someone wants to know what keywords you focus on, they will know, but putting them in your kw tag opens the door to all 'seo' softwares that are used to spy on competition. Use your keywords in a sentence in your description tag.

    And, HTML, CSS, XML... as a keywords.... would not be my recommendation

    dear,
    its very simple, put keywords in the meta keyword tag- the keywords should be related to your site. then go for meta description- you can put short description of your site with keywords used in it. try to use keywords in description and also try to make it meaningful.

    If you are not a website designer, programmer, SEO analyst or website owner already focused on search engine optimisation you probably have never heard of meta tags. So what are they? Where can they be found? And why are they important if they are important at all?

    Meta tags are often part of the coding of a website, although they are being found less and less these days. Meta tags are elements of the web page language HTML or XHTML that provide metadata, data or information for the search engines about that webpage. Meta tags can be used to detail the page description, keywords and other data not specified in the head elements of the page.
