Meta tags & footer code

I am building my first review site and need some advice.
When putting in Meta tags, should I do just one or as many as possible? What do I put in the footer code?

 

use 5 to 8 meta tags max

 

keep the keywords relevant and that are present on your page in your meta keywords.
you can keep the title of your product in the footer

 

Thanks, is it better to have longtail keywords or single?

 

CanEh! I wouldn't worry about meta tags really. It's better to have long tailed keywords in your content. In your footer put your copyright info, site map, and privacy policy. Google really likes a site map and privacy policy. I've read some blogs that say google does give you a slightly better ranking if your copyright info is up to date.

meta tags are pretty useless right now except for description. it controls what kind of snippet users see in the serp result. if you don't plan on ranking your site in organic results - don't bother with meta tags at all.

 

Karabas, not sure if I would agree with 'useless', if you can do good SEO - even a short 2-3 page review site can do wonders for you - especially if you know any GH/BH techniques including footer code (btw OP - do you mean that your footer is an 'include' file or iframe and needs it's own meta?). If not and you just want to know what to put on the page, here are some tips:

Let's say you are promoting 'dog food'.
* Make a few anchors in your footer, one 'dog food' other 'premium food for dogs', now make text on the page with those exact words, and link them to the anchors. Just make sure it makes sense i.e. 'click > dog food to get your discount', and have a discount down there etc.
* Make a keyword link thats hardcoded to your domain/index.html
* Make a sitemap/copyright info/contact page with real email address on the page.
* Make a text link keyword heavy from the footer linking to an anchor on the page going up - 'click here for my fav dog food', link to anchor beside your fav. named 'buy premium dog food' etc.
* Very faint font, link to a few other dog food sites with high PR.
* Put a bunch of pics of dog food, name the files dog-food.jpg and have alt-text 'dog food' and link to anchors or pages named dog-food.html which have dog-food in the title... loop back to the home page.
These are the basics but you can expand if you do seo research.

If you build a few pages (say 3-5) you can easily SEO your way to tons of traffic.

I meant that keyword meta tags are pretty much useless.
