meta nofollow

So i have a few rss feeds on my site that are producing a bunch of 404 errors. I have tried messing with the code and trying to add the rel="nofollow" attribute to the individual links but it just wont work.

So my question is: Is it better for me to add the <meta name="robots" content="nofollow" /> to the page or to leave it as is. I know that google hates 404 errors and can deduct for them. But I also know that google likes when all your pages are pointing to each other. Is it worth getting rid of the 404s if I have to also give up the in site links on that page? Are there any better alternatives?

    Thanks

the question is why do you want to keep 404 pages. even if you want to keep them then create custom 404 pages placing the relevant links on them which can direct the user as well as crawler to the correct page
