How important is this? Isn't nearly all of the search engine traffic from the page content/ domain?

Is this meta tag even used in a significant way by search engines anymore?

Post your thought/ any links that may explain this, I'm a bit confused on it...

The keywords meta tag doesn't have much (any?) influence anymore. Test it yourself by putting a made up word in there that doesn't occur anywhere in Google's SERPs and once your page is indexed, search for it.

It was spammed like mad in the good ole days, so that's why its effect has been diluted.

I would include it for completeness, and to give your competitors something to look at.

Although meta keyword is not used by any of the SE, there is one very important reason to use it. After SEOing ~500 pages per month, you will forget what keyword you are tuning the specific page for. I use it to document what is the first and second keyword phrase that I am tuning the page for.
