Hi. Are meta keywords and meta descriptions important ? I dont know whether i checked correctly or not, But in many sites i have found no metakeyword at homepages. Including seomoz and vbulletin.com http://www.metatagscheck.com/metatagscheck.php?url=http://www.seomoz.org/&submit=Check! http://www.metatagscheck.com/metatagscheck.php?url=vbulletin.com&submit=Check! Does this mean that those keywords are unimportant or ? Regards
meta keywords are ignored by Google and other search engines give them a very, very low importance. meta descriptions on the other hand are very important. This is your call to action. It needs to be a compelling to entice people to click on to your site when they are looking though the search results.
I was just about to say the same ^^^ Just to add that Page Titles in the META is also to be taken very seriously.. but yeah, keywords now largely ignored...
Well, Thanks for answer. So can you explain what meta description is ? I know a little about it, but not sure whether they are correct or not. If i have Vbulletin support site, then Is it ok to have meta description like : Get Fast and Free Vbulletin Support. Or any other suggestion? And , the other question is, Should meta description be for homepage only, or for all pages ?
When you do a Google search, the description that appears under the search results is taken from the meta description if it exists (well, in most cases anyway), otherwise the search engine will take an abstract of the text on the page. Sometimes the abstract might be OK, but it is usually better to handcraft your descriptions via the meta description. It helps to create a description that makes people want to click on your site. In your example, say I search for vbulletin support and some of the descriptions that come back (these aren't real) are: vBulltin Support Available Please Log In. This areas is limited to customers with a valid vBulletin license Get Fast and Free vBulletin Support It doesn't take a genus to work out which description is most likely to appeal to people. If possible, you should try to set a meta description for all your pages (although, don't worry about pages like privacy policy, terms and conditions etc)
Yes and no. You should make sure you include your keywords in your meta description, but make sure you write it well so it appeals to humans.
yes meta descriptions are more important but meta keywords are not important,,because google & other search engines are give very low value.....plz target your description carefully..
Ah, So in brief, Meta Description must contain keywords in a way which will attract people. Am i right ? Thanks for help.
Meta keywords does not have much importance. If you are planning to rank your site in google then there is no need of them and for other search engine they do have little bit.But you can easily work and rank your site without them.
But what interesting is that, i had 2 sites. Site1 PR:0 Site2 PR:2 Then i started the same thread in Site1 and Site2 with a name :$Thread_Name Then after a few days, i searched google for $Thread_Name The Result from Site1(PR:0) was at the first page, however the result from Site2(PR:2) was in 3th page. I thought this is because that, Site1 already has $Thread_Name in its meta keywords. But As you explained that Meta Keywords are unimportant, Now think that there were some other reasons for that. Thanks for help. Regards
yes this more Important please go this link for more details http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2412118
Meta tag keyword is useless, title tag is important because it appears in browser window and in search listing, description tag is worth doing at least on homepage of your website (because it appears in search listing too). If you don't use description tag not big deal neither google will use content from the page...
Meta tags are extremely important, that's why huge, developed sites are hiding them. They make them invisible (which is very hard to do so), so nobody can copy them and see it except of SE.
