    Hi guys,

    I need your help. When people are talking about keywords are you talking about whats in the meta keyword tag or in the content of the site?

    Ive just checked the google webmaster tools and the content keywords are pretty random (not related to my meta tags) and not at all what I want to target.

    Ive been trying to work out what to do about this any suggestions? I was thinking about putting an invisible div in a couple of areas of my site and putting in it a few keywords that I want to target. I read google record the position of the information but I presume that since its in my code it will be ok.

    How important is the frequency of the keyword as well?

    Thanks

    John

    When most people refer to keywords, they are talking about the words they are targeting with their content and links. Meta keywords is somewhat outdated and is not useful for Google in particular.

    You definitely should try to integrate your target keywords into your content. Don't go about just stuffing it in your code, especially in hidden divs. This can get you penalized. Instead try to work those keywords into your existing content and a bit in image alt tags. More importantly, get quality backlinks to your site using those keywords as link anchor text.

    ok thanks for your input. I might try to squeeze in a paragraph relating to the keywords then but keeping it visible. Thanks for the tip about the alt tag I can make those changes right away.

    Vansterdam is pretty on point, but some people still like to use meta tags since they are used by some of the niche search engines and could give you some good extra traffic for a small amount of extra effort!

    Good luck!

    This is just an example;

    title: yellow white
    description: yellow colour, yellowish, blends, white, whiten, color, off-white,
    keywords: yellow, yellow color, color, yellow blend, white, off-white, white color, whiten

    hope this helps
