A very good point. As Google more and more just chooses what's relevant based upon the query for the snippet, the meta description is becoming less relevant, but rather the focus is for on-page content. What Google chooses is going to contain the keywords, so it's likely to have relevancy to the searcher (whereas the meta description may not as it can't be all-encompassing).
