Likewise... I wonder if all the talk about the meta description tag saving pages from the supplemental index is true.
I recently researched about supplemental results and so far, there was not a mention about meta description about it. Meta descriptions should be descriptive enough to attract visitors, but I agree with you Tyler.
But I think the supplemental thing makes sense. I mean, if you want to find additional use of the meta tag description, this would be it. And it also shows that the pages are different from each other.
It’s important to have a well managed Meta tag But it should be relevant to your content else it will hurt your SERP.
guess no body knows for sure how much it affects your SEO. But if you are already updating your normal description, keywords, etc, might not hurt to just update meta parts too....
I heard that some major search engines have ignored meta tags altogether, much due to abuse in the past. I think it's best to pay more attention to titles and keyword-rich first paragraphs.
Meta tags really helps to make the pages different from each other. I agree that good meta description will make your visitor interested on your site.
IMO a visitor would be more interested in clicking if he/she sees the exact term that they were searching for in boldface.
a good relevant meta description will also help in good ranking. Major search engines considers the description part for ranking the site provided it shd b relevant and user friendly as well
It is still very useful to put meta tag description for your site. It adds flavor to your site.... The visitor will know what your site is all about when they see this tags in your site. You must put appropriate meta tag description for your site, what your site is all about....
Meta description becomes more useful when your page is found on top of search results because users will see what your page is all about. Otherwise, I doubt it helps much in boosting rankings.
still part of SEO...not much of importance given by SEs but still anything that can help with your site is worth doing...
Agree, I would make sure you have meta descriptions, but wouldn't kill yourself over it. There are more important places to spend your time.
My experience with meta descriptions has basically led me to the conclusion that having a good page specific meta description is likely beneficial for SEO (remember that click-through rates in some form are probably integrated into the G algorithm), but the most important thing about meta descriptions is to NOT use the same meta description on every page. If you don't have the time to write out a unique meta description for a page (or have a way to do it algorithmically), then you will be better off not having a meta description and letting the engines generate one using your page content.
