I have hundreds of pages and I need to clean up all their meta-description as they proved to more important than keywords according to Google Analytics

Are there any good practices on how to create META description and how they should match the content of their pages (h1 h2 etc.)

Thank you for sharing your expertise

Usually a good meta description will just fall into place if you've structured your pages and headings correctly. What I mean is if you were to place proper heading tags on the important keywords, and have that page in the preferred hierarchy by Google, then your meta description should include these keywords. Simply describe what the page is about. If you've created your page correctly according to search engines, your meta description should refelect your headings and page/directory structure

My rule of thumb for just about any tags: don't overdo it. If you have important keywords to put in the tags, do it once or twice, maybe 3 times. But anything over that could either be useless or considered as spam.

Working on meta description for 100s pages can be time-consuming - boring too. Do a keyword research at:

Then, spread the keywords out onto different pages. If you have 10 keywords, you don't have to include 10 keywords on every page. Perhaps 3-6 on each page, but 100s pages allow you to cover all bases.
