Is there any point spending time going through meta description and meta keywords on a site and making them specific to a page? I don't think there is on Google but what about other engines too?
Meta Description: Google gives some value, others give more value than google gives. Meta Keywords: Google gives NO value, others give some value.
Meta Description tag => This is still important for all major SEs. Meta Keyword tag => All SEs but Google give some value if the keywords you place are found on the page, their synonyms and misspellings.
Definitely make them specific to the page if you can. Having the same description on all pages is almost as bad as not having descriptions at all.
Does it helps in getting better SERPs position?? Regarding Synonyms, it is fine according to LSI. But misspellings help ..... i find it difficult to swallow.
Regarding misspellings, what i can think of is - they help getting site in SERPs for misspelled keywords only. See the logic......People used to make mistake....common mistake of misspelling (So searches are there) and compitition for those misspelled keywords is very less.....hence, there is a chance to get targetted traffic easily. Relevant search ==> Targetted Traffic + Misspelled keywords ==> Less Compitition Makes Quality Traffic.
Hi There, My name is lisa, and i am the owner of: www.mymovingquote.com Moving Companies Directory my page rank is 5 i am trying to get high ranking on keyword moving companies, moving services, can some look at my site and give me an advise, this would be appreciated. Thank you Lisa White
If you don't want to spend much time on Meta keywords, just find the highest ranking site that is similar to yours and copy their keywords. Change a few of course, but this can save you time on something that doesn't matter much for the highly competitve search terms.
I just found a site ranked number 1 in Yahoo that has the keyword 12 times in the meta description and 15 times in the meta keywords. What's up with that?
My guess is that it means that Yahoo, like Google, does not use either the meta description tag or the meta keywords tag for ranking. Google uses the description tag for the search results page snippet (sometimes, depending on the search term) but not for ranking and doesn't apparently use the keywords meta tag for anything at all. Thus, these two tags won't boost your ranking in Google but a spammy looking description may well discourage potential clients from clicking on that link and visiting your site. Assuming Yahoo and MSN treat these tags similarly, which seems likely to me, the #1 ranking is not because of those tags but perhaps in spite of it.
It looks like Yahoo isn't penalizing sites for stuffing the tags. I don't what other factors might rank these guys at #1. The stuffing did push the keyword density up to about 23%.
But that increase in keyword density may mean nothing. See http://www.e-marketing-news.co.uk/Mar05/garcia.html for an opinion.
Can you give some insite n what Yahoo! gives most weight to for ranking a site? What thing have you noticed helping your sites rank and what things hinder your rankings? Thanks.
To be honest, I pay little or no attention to Yahoo. The majority of my traffic comes from Google, followed by MSN and AOL, and Yahoo is a distant fourth or fifth. (edit: still having trouble with that counting thing...) My strategy is to optimize for Google. This generally has resulted in top 5-10 rankings in MSN and Yahoo too. On the other hand, what I hear is that product sites, as opposed to information or service sites, get more traffic from Yahoo and that individuals searching for products are more likely to use Yahoo. I don't know if that's true since I don't use Yahoo to search for anything at all. However, the strategy that best works for you may well depend on what type of site(s) you have.
Well I dont happen to agree with you. Google dont give any value to the meta keyword tag. If you could prove, you are welcome. Prawin
