My question: What is your ideal length for meta data, titles and descriptions? I had been researching and found that: * Meta Titles should be no longer than 66 characters * Meta Descriptions should be not longer than 155 characters Would you agree with those lengths? If not what do you use? What process do you use to create meta data? I have many pages to create information for and working to come up with the best guidelines to make process easier. Thanks so much!
You want organic results? Then stop tweaking your pages for search engines! Put as many characters as required and you'll be fine
Yes, these values give me sense. Have a look at google results and count the number of characters it dispalays. You will get similar numbers.
Here's a good resource for optimal tag lengths: http://www.seomoz.org/user_files/SEO_Web_Developer_Cheat_Sheet.pdf For the title they recommend no more than 70 chars and no more than 155 chars for the meta description. There is no problem going over these limits, but some of the search engines may ignore anything past these limits. Having too much text also dilutes your keywords.
as pointed out by soopoot, stop tweaking your site, the only people who should constantly theak their sites are seo people who are trying to find out what google is changing, the lengths are correct, you do not want too much in your title as it may kick in a spam filter and more than 155 characters in the descriptions why would you do this... the description is a sales letter which appears on the SERPs so any more than the 2 lines and no one can read it....
