Advertisers do pay upto $70 per click .... but most of the advertisers have the content sites turned off in their campaigns because they know that there is a lot of crap out there. So the big money is made my google search ads...and not by the content websites...
Of all you complaining that meso sites don't convert, how many of you have 1st page serps for a meso keyword - or even on the first 3 pages ? How many of you understand how adwords works ? If a advertiser is offering $100 per click (or whatever) who's to say he hasn't only got a daily limit of $1000. Realistically, the budget is likely to be more than that. But you're only going to see the big paying ads on your site once in a blue moon. To get decent paying ads on a site: a) find a niche where there are a reasonable number of advertisers b) there shouldn't be too many publishers c) you should be able to get 1st page serps reasonably easy. d) there must be a reasonable amount of surfers. And remember, just because you're designing the site to display adverts on (ie make money) there's no reason why you can't put genuine useful content on it as well
