I don't know if it'd be a hassle and worth a possible .me dn I found available. Anyone who has a .me dn, please share your experiences of the process, and if it's truly worth the effort and investment.
Top Level Domain (TLD) has specific meaning. Like.com for company, .info for information etc etc. Quality site means good traffic. But TLD doesn't matter for ranking.
if its possible to get .org or .net, get it. however, any extension can still be worth if the site has good informative contents.
It's not worth it for investment, (likewise anything other than .com or a really good .org/.net or generic keyword for a tier-1 geo country (uk/s/nl etc). If you plan to develop it in to a website, then no domain has any significant advantage over any other, other than a fraction of people who will naturally assume any site they visit ends with .com when revisiting. Do try to avoid heavily used names when buying domains to develop though, if you google "your domain" and can't see that it would be easy to get in to number one for that term, then mark it down a bit.
If you've found a good name, then you can register it. The registration shouldn't be more difficult than registering a .com You can try EuroDNS for country code domain names. I think GoDaddy also offer them.
Appreciate your insight. (and same goes to the rest who replied as well) I guess if anything the plan of attack will be to register all of the domains together, it'll be in best interest for my business.
But I thought that you need to live in that country or have someone be resident to it in order to be eligible for the purchase... Obviously there have been instances where people blended the rules, but .me tld are the more popular than any other countries.
It totally depends on your site. If you can catch a nice pronounceable .me domain just go with it and you'll see it doesn't affect your ranking ... what's more!
Let's consider instagr.am - Instagram which Mark Zuckerburg brought for $1Billion - if you can think of a unique .me name and build a website around it which instantly takes off then the TLD would have value. Otherwise you could sell the .me to a business or individual in Mexico wanting that exact .me TLD.
Its depend on your keyword, length of domain, monthly searches on Google... If .com is available then buy that... else .me is Ok..
You're absolutely right... and I do have a clever .me idea, in fact a couple available. I know its a relative fad, but at the same time those TLDs aren't going anywhere unless some drastic happens. I think people nowadays are able to look past the .coms, although its still the juggernaut.
