Merging two forums together than moving to a new url?

  1. #1
    run two automotive model specific forums and i plan to move it all into one website/domain.

    One of the domains the forum is installed in the root and the other its installed in a forum folder.

    Importing the content is quite simple but i just dont know what to do after the import with the old url and domains.

    The two model specific sites have about 400 members each and about 50 to 100 uniques a day.

    Any Advice would be much appreciated...

    I would use the most powerful domain as the primary domain and if you are receiving traffic from other domains just forward them to the primary. If you where getting organic search traffic from the other domains you may lose that traffic once your forward them to the primary. However if you get a lot of bookmark and direct traffic then it would benefit to keep the others and forward them.

    What type of redirect would i do ? a 404 ? and forward everything to the root?

    first 404 is not redirect it's an error massage that page didn't find.

    You has only one best option of 301 redirection. So do 301 redirection to your old urls where you wanna do in a forum folder or in root. 301 redirection is complete solution which wud redirect all the traffic and backlinks to ur new place.

    So just do it.....................
