Has anyone any experience with merging two reasonably large blogs, and the consequences SEO wise? I have a Blogspot that's 3 years old with 1600 posts. It was hijacked last year and I started my own dot-com which now has 1000 posts. Now I have retained control I have two sites that receive the same amount of traffic for the same niche. I really think I should merge, although I suspect their will be format issues. Any ideas, suggestions or pitfalls I should avoid?
i think you will be having wordpress on your new blog.. Its would be actually difficult to move it easily without loosing the Pr of the old blog. An easy method would be to use the old blog on a subdomain of yours and host it with google. I mean make a subdomain say blogger.yourdomain.com and make this subdomain point to ghs.google.com Now you will be able to switch to custom domain from your blogger settings..This means that all of your old blogspot urls will now point to the new subdoamain(yourblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/123.html - > blogger.yourdomain.com/2008/06/123.html ).The blogspot will eventually disappear from google and the new suddomain will be indexed..If you wait some months, this process will be complete.. Now after this is complete you can migrate the subdomain to wordpress.. Now if you are still not satisfied and want to move them all to the main domain, then export these posts to the main domain with whatever permalink you want, but make sure that you redirect each of your subdomain page to the corresponding post in the main domain. Now eventually your subdomain will disappear from google and eventually all pages will be on your main domain.. I don't think there is another better way to migrate from Blogger To Wordpress without loosing.. Using meta refresh, javascript or any such redirect methods to redirect your blogspot blog to the wordpress blog wont be of any use in terms of SEO If you need more help in implementing this method, you can surely contact me..
