Easy to implement, would be useful than not knowing is anyone online in a section you are currently browsing.

How exactly is it useful? Not to be argumentative, but things like that which require server resources/queries for what I see as very little value probably aren't going to happen unless someone shows what the value actually is. Things being faster/with less bloat is a good thing in my opinion. :)

Shawn, it will let us know the users who are interested in that section. Say, if I am selling domains, then displaying the users online on the domains BST section will help me to see my loyal buyers and also the buyers can identify the trusted sellers online easily and ping them for their needs. This way its useful instead of checking / following each and every member to see if he is online or not.

The difference is it's less server resources on our end, which makes for a faster site. Either way, if you are *really* spamming people, they will report you and you will end up banned. So think of it as a way to protect you from yourself. If we make it too easy for you to spam, you will be banned quicker. :)

Agreed with you Shawn but I think you are already using for Total online users that we can see on home page of forum and here also https://forums.digitalpoint.com/members
Now you have to fire some more queries tht's it and I don't think it makes site too slower as you think and about how it is useful so new member and all others can get aware which forum/sub-forum is hot (All people not using for spamming ;)) also other IM forum showing that bcoz it looks good :)
Not forcing you for apply this permanent but just try it for 1-2 days and check how much differ it creates. Also this time you can find people are equally divided in all forums bcoz of 3 Likes Rule..lolz :p

Not at all. I imagine it would only be useful for PM spammers and stalkers. I accept that any time I post in BST I might end up with PM spam, but who wants it just because you're looking at a section.

Shawn, you make no sense. No one is going to spam anyone, stop whining.

This would be useful, end of topic.

I still have not heard anyone say how it would be useful though.
