Take as many links as you can get from garbage like that- I'd rather have one on a page with under 1200 links...and that isn't just me.

my news years resolution is not to argue with people about SEO

its does nothing for me, I don't learn anything new by doing it anymore

I could sit and point out holes in SEO theories but then people call me a spammer

AnthonyCEA I deleted by other post because it was off topic like you pointed out, not becasue I wanted to hide it, or make it look like you posted twice

Anthony have you you every linked to a link farm and been penalized?

Have any of you? People always talk about link farms and bad neighborhoods yet no one can every provide an example of one. Arn't you inquisitive about why that is?

I'm really asking the question, if you know of any examples I really want to check them out. I think its pretty important thing to be able to recognize

I don't think you can just link to a "link farm" and get penalized, at least not if you site is linked to and from elsewhere. I think it is a percentage thing otherwise every directory would penalized.

Look yahoo has a link to linktoyou (the original link farm, I think)

    http://search.yahoo.com/search/dir?p=linkstoyou&ei=UTF-8&fr=FP-tab-dir-t-180&fl=0&x=drt

I don't think they are penalized. I'm not saying it can't happen I just think it doesn't happen as easily as people think.

I think SEO people hype up the dangers to make them seem more like 'experts'

it gives them something to write articles about

Ferret, even though I called you a weasel, I agree with what you are saying above. Google just doesn't go around penalizing people left right and center. I'm so tired of people asking questions like "I put my underwear on backwards this morning, do you think Google will penalize me for it?"

Google is in the business of finding and indexing sites and attempting to offer the most relevant sites for any given search term. They will only drop a site from their index for the most flagrant violations of their TOS.

And I said this in another thread just yesterday, Anthony is advocating a reporting system so we can band all these terrible sites, but nobody has even offered to define what constitutes a spammy site or a link farm. If we can't define it all we are going to have is a web based inquisition.

Actually I've linked to a "bad neighboor" or whatever you want to call it from the category we're i'm editor in DMOZ and in my website. Both of them got PR0... After I remove that specific link the PR was back to normal, so there is some kind of "devalue" on your website.

do you remember what the site was? its url ? or what it was doing that made it a bad neighborhood?

Did the whole site get a pr0 ? or just the page that was linked to it?

was the page removed from the serps?

    Yes I remember... www.tuningbrasil.com

Right now everything is back to normal... Only the pages that were linking to it got PR0 but with this last update everything went back to normal... PR is gained and my links page is back on SERPs... Don't know about the DMOZ cat but my link page was removed from SERPs.

Do your sites or any of your associates sites load adware/malware via drive by downloads or tracking cookies on visitors boxes that track their movements online?

I know some of these ringtone portals leave porno referrals on our server logs and they do it to get traffic back, not to visit our sites.

You do none of these things, nor your partners that you link to automatically through your signature here at DP? Do you know for sure that those you link to are clean?

The above doesn't look spammy to me.

If you are referring to the anchor text being bizarre, that is because of content encodings miss-match.

Other than the fact I can't read Portugese I don't see a thing wrong with this site. Can someone tell me why they are a bad neighborhood?

This is exactly what I'm afraid of in this vigilante movement of Anthony's. Someone will jump to the wrong cause and effect conclusion and a perfectly legitmate site will suddenly be put on the blacklist.

This is McCarthyism all over again.

Geez... what's your problem? I don't give a rat's a*s if it is a link farm or not, I just asked a question and I still haven't received a good answer.
