Hi. According to Google.com/webmasters my current PR for most of my pages are medium (im assuming this means 5/6?). I know there are other factors that play a part in determining SERPs but as google states themselves PR is a big part of it. Im finding it a little strange that I don't show up any keywords for google (apart from my company name) even though Ive got some good links with good anchor text. Could it be that my site is still only a couple of months old? I have been reading about google penalties, is there anyway to check if I might have one, for maybe linking building too quickly, if that is even possible. For yahoo/msn im doing well for my keywords. Thanks for any help/suggestions, its much appreciated.
I'm having the same thing on one of my websites: -New website (7 months) -Ranks good only for company name on GG -High rankings on other SE -Good links So I guess this is caused by the domain name age. I'm not sure of it, maybe some more experienced webmasters here on DP forums who had the same experiencex can give you answers/suggestions
where did you read it that PR is still a big part of it.....big myth...PR and Serps are not related... It could be that your site is still young.....If you have already done on page SEO....then continue building backlinks with the proper anchor text...
I'm no expert, but from what I've read on these forums I think others would disagree. If you look at: http://www.google.com/technology/index.html "The heart of our software is PageRankâ„¢, a system for ranking web pages developed by our founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University" I'm not saying PR is the only factor, but from reading that it sounds like it plays an important part in SERPs.
What do you base this conclusion on? Did you read the link/quote I posted? I find it hard to believe that Google would lie and go to the trouble of implementing a page rank system if it didnt mean anything.
TaxFix, as you may have read on my first reply, I have the same experience as you... Today (9 hours and 30 minutes) after my reply, my site is back to the first page on google for my main KW. Regarding PR, a high PR doesn't reflect anything special, unless you have >~PR7, keep working on your content, seo (in site and links), and give it a little patience and it will be fine
Good Pr doesn't mean Serps Rankings But Serps Rankings mean you have/will have a nice PR It's simple don't stick with the PR is just a number
What makes you say this? What about the link/quote I posted. Doesnt that diagree? Im not saying its the only factor but surely it plays some factor in SERPs.
just check you are in sandbox or be banned by google or not. how to do it? search around forum a bit man. ^^

As I understand it there are 2 page ranks: 1) the visible green toolbar PR which a lot of experts say means nothing these days and, 2) Google's internal PR which is very important in SERPs, but unknown to anyone outside Google. The quote refers to the latter, I believe.
PR isn't a search ranking factor with big weight. You can read in this article abou t search ranking factors whit big weight. www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors
There could be various reasons for this problem, some markets are just ultra competitve that even with good PR and backlinks you will have a hard time competing against the big boys with their old and established sites and maybe a much larger marketing budget than you. What is your site? What are your keywords?
what is your site about? if there are hard competition, it's normal for medium pr web sites. to increase you serp, you must continue to build backlinks
