Hi! I'm new around here. I'm hoping this would be a good place to exchange ideas and thoughts. What is your opinion about the expansion of marketing communication through various media? On one hand, we end up specializing in certain platforms. But on the other, we have to to develop a general strategy that can apply to many outputs. For example, what if we study the digital marketing of a nightclub or a party promotion, what kind of features do you think people expect nowadays? Cheers
What do you mean by expansion? I would much rather call it exploration. There were no decent social media outlets a decade ago. That's why marketers didn't care about them. As soon as these started to play a significant role in people's lives, marketers started to explore the possibilities associated with them. "For example, what if we study the digital marketing of a nightclub or a party promotion, what kind of features do you think people expect nowadays?" - do you mean from a client's perspective (club owner), marketers perspective or the club visitors perspective? I think that marketing will eventually reach Orwellian scales. It's inevitable - with all of the info businesses are able to collect about us and with more and more devices that enter our lives to collect data about us (remember the XBox One's 'always on' camera). And people will get used to it and I certainly hope that people will become immune to any sort of intrusive marketing, especially when more and more people are concerned about their privacy.
From the marketer and the visitor's perspective. My approach to take would be a strong online presence on website and social networks and making sure to provide good service and experience tailored to the target-market. Flyers and posters also seem important. One time I tried out doing some direct marketing in the street for a club in London and it was quite fun, I talked to people coming out of the train station and inviting them to this party. Our privacy is a complicated issue for sure. Hopefully we can fight for a permission-based system.
