Can you suggest me some good and easy to use media converter ? I need to convert between various file formats. Open source or free solution would be better.

I have seen mencoder and transcode for linux, but the learning curve seems to be steep! I am not very knowledgeable in how the codecs work or how many passes are required etc. A good introductory tutorial would be helpful as well. :)

    Thanks,
    Suman.

What media do you need to convert - video or audio?
    Are you using Linux?

If you're talking video, then www.afterdawn.com is a good place to start.

I use mainly Linux, but I have access to Windows as well.

I need to encode a huge .mp2 file from a handycam video into MPEG-4 so that I can upload it to Google video or Youtube.

    Any suggestion is welcome. :)
