Google may at times move some sites into sandbox and not show results from that site on its search engines. If traffic has dipped suddenly, then your site has most probably been moved to the sandbox.

The Google Sandbox effect is an alleged restriction placed on new websites. The result is a new site does not get a good ranking of the most important keywords and keyword phrases for a few months. Even with good content, many incoming links, a new website may still be adversely affected by the Sandbox effect.
This is true it 'allegedly' is this. Saying that many people would not agree on how easy it is to get put in there. I know I have run some pretty massive linking campaigns to new sites and all I have seen is improved rankings and continued SERP climbing.
