Mean spirited members...

I just want to comment that there seems to be a large percentage of members here that are just plain mean. They are allowed to run around and be rude to just about anyone they want. The reputation system is incredibly flawed here.

And before a moderator locks this topic please note how this category is labelled.

I am letting you know what I don't like.

I expect more negative reps from this but I seem to be getting them any time I give my own opinion in a thread. I don't mind someone disagreeing with me. I can argue very well. But it's crap that anonymously people get to neg rep you and most likely won't discuss the thread. It's cowardly.

I would like to suggest that the reputation system be reformed here. It happened once before and imho it should be reconsidered once again. I guess one possibility would be to remove anonyminity in reputations. This might force people to reconsider giving neg reps. I know that the charge of 1 rep point was added to deter the neg rep gangs but I don't think DP has gone far enough to deter. Another thought would be to get rid of negative reputations altogether. As the saying goes...if you don't have something nice to say...don't say anything at all. This might actually help create more a good community feel here. I just don't feel like DP is a friendly place...I never have.

I actually think this forum is very nice considering it's large size. I've seen forums that are a lot worse.

Anyhow, yeah, there are some really hateful people on DP, but put them on your ignore list and you don't have to see their trashy mouths

Don't worry about your reps, most likely you have pissed somebody off and they are going at you for a while. It should pass.

Also, minimize your reps in your control panel and don't look at them. They're causing too much anxiety. Once you see another green blob in your profile, then you can go take a look at your rep point in the user control panel. Don't sweat it for now.

 

Its Only Rep, People red me for crap all the time with some hateful stuff as well.

 

If rep was not anonymous people would just rep each other back and forth all the time. This topic has been discussed many, many times and Shawn has clearly stated his reasons for keeping the rep system the way it is.

If seeing rep comments bother you I would suggest taking JoyGoRound's advice and minimizing that portion of your user CP so you don't have to see them.
